How to Clean Your Air Conditioner

Did you know that you can do some basic cleaning on your own air conditioner? This can help improve its overall functioning so you pay less for energy and do your best for the planet. Here’s what you need to know. 

Vacuum the Coils

Remove the outside casing of your air conditioner. Wearing gloves, gently brush off or remove large chunks of debris that are stuck inside your A/C unit. You can also gently vacuum the coils. 

Use A/C Cleaner

Spray on an A/C coil cleaner (you can get these at your local hardware store) and leave it on for the time specified on the back of the can. This is usually 10-25 minutes. 

When the time is up, gently vacuum your condenser coils again. The cleaner will bond to dust and debris to make it easier for your vacuum to suck it out. When you’re done, comb your coils with a coil comb to make sure they are working effectively.
